Patrycja Kowańska
Very Ibsen
Performance Description
A black comedy with elements of Scandinavian horror. Characters drawn from the universe of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen meet after the death of their father. They are classic figures of family drama: mother, daughter, son, wife and husband.
The starting point for the performance is not any specific play by Ibsen, but what remains after his dramas: emotional patterns and the language of trauma, inherited both at home and in the theatre. Together, we will trace hidden secrets wrapped in woollen Norwegian sweaters. The ones that itch the most.
The performance includes excerpts from Henrik Ibsen’s plays Ghosts, The Wild Duck, Hedda Gabler, A Doll’s House (Nora) and John Gabriel Borkman, translated into Polish by Waleria Marrené-Morzkowska.
The video uses reproductions of paintings by Edvard Munch and Nikolai Astrup.
