Inspired by Sophocles’ Philoctetes
The Seer
Performance Description
In The Seer, Ursina Lardi plays a war photographer who travels to conflict zones in search of images that inspire horror. She seems unmoved until she herself becomes a victim of violence. After these events, she turns into a bitter Cassandra, trying to fight the blindness and indifference of people, societies and those in power.
In this performance, based on the life stories of war photographers and on his own experiences, Milo Rau examines the fragility of our values and unquestioned truths. Why is violence so seductive? What remains when war and terror destroy the world as we know it?
