Władysław Reymont
The Promised Land
Performance Description
Maja Kleczewska and Tomasz Śpiewak’s The Promised Land is not a story about the past. It is a realistic portrait of a world on the brink of revolution. But this revolution is entirely contemporary, driven not by factories, but by modern technologies and artificial intelligence.
The performance raises questions about the future of work, the persistent tensions of capitalism, the brutality of its rules and inequalities, and the mechanisms of striving for success that remain relevant today. The characters in this Promised Land are not fundamentally different from those created by Władysław Reymont and Andrzej Wajda. They still calculate, love, betray and risk everything, only now in the costume of another era.
