Anton Chekhov
The Cherry Orchard
Performance Description
Ranevskaya returns to her family home with her daughter Anya, ruined after several years spent abroad. The family no longer has the money to maintain the estate. To save the house and escape their debts, they must sell the orchard.
Through The Cherry Orchard, director Andrei Măjeri invites the audience into a half-lit world, a field of contradictions, a crossroads and a territory of marginalised characters. Chekhov’s orchard becomes the final dance before disappearance.
“The inner worlds of the characters are turned inside out and back again. Here, where we ourselves are the walls, nothing is stronger than what has been saved. Here, one can take a final look at the past, with a smile,” says Andrei Măjeri.
